Journalism Toolkit

This is a toolkit I have been working on for the last few days at the School of Authentic Journalism 2012. I gave a plenary on these tools last night but wanted to share it here as well as I think there are some useful tools for not only journalists but also bloggers. There are few references to useful tools as well as online security and some useful links to websites that give extensive information on movement organizing, protecting rights, ensuring online security and what not. Feel free to share and comment if you have additional suggestions and I will happily include them in the text.

Digital Activism Recommendations

This is a presentation our group of Social Media and Digital Activism gave this morning at the Fletcher Institute as part of the Fletcher Summer Institute for the Advanced Study of Nonviolent Conflict.

I am also currently working on a manual with resources for digital activists and organizers on some of the tools they can use and websites they can refer to during their campaigns.

According to Committee to Protect Journalists Special Report:

The world' worst online oppressors are using an array of tactics, some reflecting astonishing levels of sophistication, others reminiscent of old- school techniques. 

And so Danny O'Brian writes of what is happening around the world in countries like China, Iran and Burma and many others where freedom of media and activism are heavily censored and brutally punished.
