It can't get more idiotic than this!

Indeed, things our "intelligent" leadership say, go beyond comprehension, so below, are just few quotes I came across while reading some of our newspapers (Yeni Azerabaijan, Xalq, Azadliq). I don't know whether I should laugh or actually cry, these are, ladies and gentlemen, people who are running this country and in charge of some very important positions:

Ilham Aliyev:

“At the moment, there is little spill- over effect of the world financial crisis in Azerbaijan, and it will remain so in months to come” Zerkalo, February 24, 2009

“Oil revenues are distributed fairly and differences in main incomes, haven’t brought layering of the society” Zerkalo, February 24, 2009

“Azerbaijan is leading in transparency in the world” Zerkalo, February 24, 2009

“Our rich energy resources are going to provide for our country for another 100 years as well” Yeni Azerbaijan, January 10, 2009

“Some external forces are jealous of the fact that AZ has been implementing liberal economic changes over the last 4 years and making this country no. 1 reformer”  Yeni Azerbaijan, January 17, 2009

"The main reason for Azerbaijan being a stable state/government over the last 15 years  is because of the closeness of the regime to its people and all the work done has been supported by our people” Xalq, February 27, 2009

Hikmet Baboglu, director of New Azerbaijan Party:

“Proposed constitutional amendments serve to strengthen relations between the state and the people, improve democracy, and legal framework” Yeni Azerbaijan, January 6, 2009

Eldar Ibrahimov, member of the political committee of YAP:

...blamed Obama for not telling the truth about media freedom in AZ. “AZ has freedom of speech and freedom of press and no one in this country can be influenced or critiqued for their own independent thought! I am hoping Obama wont make the mistake again!”

Ali Hasanov- chief of the socio- political department under the Presidential Apparatus- on the closure of the radios (this one is my favorite!):

these (VoA, BBC, Liberty) radios are not broadcasted in civilized countries. They are continuation of the Cold War period. Plus if these stations were so important then why they are not broadcasted in countries like Britain, France, Belgium” Azadliq, January 22, 2009

Isa Aliyev, director of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences:

“it is the result of sound economic policies and well- thought through socio- economic mechanisms carried out by the president that Azerbaijan wont have to face financial crisis” Xalq, January 31, 2009

Naila Rzaquliyeva, Baku city education department director:

“The number of students who have got the highest scores in 2008, have achieved this simply because our teachers have been putting a lot of effort into their teaching” Xalq, January 24, 2009

Mirkazim Kazimov, MP, YAP member:

“Life styles and living conditions are getting better by each day” Xalq, January 27, 2009

Title of an article published in Xalq in March 15, 2009 (3 days prior to referendum):

Changes in constitution are Azerbaijani people’s will”.

OK. this is what to be expected from the country where president, elected once, later becomes president for life.
But seriously, we are becoming less and less intelligent in our own ways..

I wasn't aware there are two different countries called Azerbaijan on this earth. The one I just learned about must be something like Paradise. ;-)

Nothing is absolute in life; we all look at reality from a subjective scope of our life experiences. Impulses behind these statements are perfectly normal. Any other "azeri" would say the same if offered equal amount of money and power. Although, I do not think anyone else takes these words at face value.

Wow. You're right, the foreign broadcaster quote is the best. Perhaps someone should point out to Mr. Hasanov that the BBC (i.e. BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation) most certainly IS broadcast in Britian.

Wow. Our president is 9 and a half years old. "Jealous". Just wow. Words escape me.

(Pretty much every quote from then on made my jaw drop further and further towards my keyboard...)

Haha! I recall something similar to that quote from Yeni Azerbaijan newspaper. Though, I think they just have same things written pretty much in every issue. So I am not surprised that it sounded so familiar! If you want to see some more "jaw dropping" articles, check out Xalq newspaper, that one is pretty hilarious too.

Thanks for the comment! :)
