A head scarf and night life of Istanbul…

Last night, when I went to listen to a DJ in one of the popular Istanbul clubs Babylon, I saw something that I haven’t seen over the last two years since I moved to live in Istanbul.

Right there, among a crowd of hundreds of people stood a woman in her late 30s enjoying the performance. What made her unusual was not the fact that she was dancing and singing along all those people at the club. No! What made her unusual for that crowd was the fact that she was fully covered (according to Muslim standards) wearing a headscarf with matching top and a long skir. Right there she stood, with her boyfriend/fiancé/husband (I wouldn’t know), listening…

While, this was just one woman, she made a statement last night to everyone there that she is just like all of us, and wearing a headscarf didn’t make her different and that the dress code doesn’t matter if you want to have fun and enjoy the evening of life music.
