Ah the Eurovision contest

While many of us know by now that annually held Eurovision contest is nothing but part of great game called politics, every year, millions of fans gather in front of their TV screens to watch the show and cast their votes for their favorite performers. And this year was no different.

I must confess, I was one of those millions. But unlike previous years, I must say, this year's contest was much better. I enjoyed performances of many contestants- Bosnia Herzegovina, Germany, France, Greece, Turkey, and few more.

Can't say I was crazy about all of the performances. But covering the contest on Twitter it was nice to follow comments of some of my friends who agreed on some instances and disagreed on others.

In Azerbaijan the contest began at midnight but despite its late hour, the place where I was watching the contest was packed with everyone clapping to each performance they liked or booing the ones they weren't so happy about.

And to my surprise, no major conflict took place between Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Russia. Though, have to comment on Armenia's number- wow, those were some fantastic boobs (sorry for my language). I wasn't so crazy about the song and the overall performance though, which was sad, since I actually liked Kele kele and last year's performance.

Same with Azerbaijan. Safura's eyes were dead- there was no sparkle. Ok, I get it, its a slow song but those looks were something or perhaps nothing?! Plus, I couldn't quite catch what that famous Beyonce's choreographer did? The actual video of the song is much much better. And honestly, last year's performer Aysel, did so much better on that stage. As its been the case over the last three years (ever since Azerbaijan joined Eurovision song contest), Turkey was one of the countries who gave 12 points to Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan gave its 12 points to Turkey as well.

Georgia's performance was a bliss. I enjoyed the song, the dress, and the performer herself. And one of my favorites of that night was Lena from Germany. The song was catchy, simple, and just too cute. It was just Lena and you could tell she was enjoying that song (especially when you compare previous contestants from Germany).

Belgium was also simple, just him and his guitar. UK's performance was like a scene from the movie Sound and Lyrics and Portugal's song could most probably work for a soundtrack of a new "Lion King" or "Aladdin" as was suggested by another user on Twitter.

But overall, it was pretty colorful. And for those who want to read more of blogger's accounts about the contest and reactions to it, check this link written by Onnik Krikorian of Global Voices.

  2. Germany was by far my favorite. Georgia and Belgium also were in my top 3. I also like Sweden, Latvia, Slovakia and Finland, but the unfortunately didn't make it to the finals. And Israel was nice, too.

  3. You right about Safura’s eye too. In general she was ridiculous, I didn’t understand why was she running, her dress was awful, the lights that coasted a lot money on her dress did give any effect as background lights were on. She was too much happy for that song, she was not living that feeling and was so artificial. If you watch Aysel’s last years performance her eye are shining, she is like a cat and playing with her eyes, you are not just listing the song, enjoying the performance but same time getting excited.
